Hello Shruthi,

Are you planning to change the passwords of the MAXDB database users?

If yes =>

A)

MAXDB library:

http://maxdb.sap.com/doc/7_8/default.htm ->

Database Studio -> Managing Users: Overview

B)

If you are SAP customer => Review  SAP Note No. 25591

***

What is the version of your database?

What is the type of your database?

What is the version of the DB studio installed on your machine?

Are you planning to change the password of dbm < database operator, default SAP installation  - control >, SYSDBA or DBA database user ?

Hi Sreekanth,

You are already trying to install MaxDB 7.8 in the same server. The issue is that you want to keep the existing databases without any upgrade. it is best to make them consistent.

According to the installation procedure for Solman 7.1 with MaxDB 7.8, you need to first instal 7.7 and then upgrade to 7.8.

Please note that the programs and libraries in program path (sapdb/programs) will be updated and used by all database instances. See: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/44/1549d945f71a74e10000000a1553f6/frameset.htm

Based on the following link the global listener is also downward compatible and should not cause any issues to have the 7.6 databases

http://maxdb.sap.com/doc/7_8/45/376baca05f6bf1e10000000a1553f6/content.htm

I haven't had different release of MaxDB on one server but I think it is possible.

It was also best to install these systems on separate server. I guess if you need to restart one system then you need to restart all. see: http://scn.sap.com/thread/690627

I hope this helps,

Shahab

Re: Snap Creator for Maxdb

Hi,

we are also looking into refreshing our MaxDB backup infrastructure under SuSE Linux., MaxDB 7.7 and 7.8 and Netapp NFS managed by Fujitsu's "FlexFrame for SAP" and NDMP currently with Legato Networker.

Netapp SnapCreator involves some scripts and in version 3.5/3.6 contains a Netapp supported MaxDB Plug-In. Will try it out next week if I can.

Not sure whether SAP would certify single components of backup solutions,

they might just stop at certifying Netapp NFS and any possible BACKINT interface.

In addition to SnapCreator which might help us synchronizing Netapp snapshots of different volumes belonging to one MaxDB we are thinking about using the MaxDB 7.8 feature

"dbmcli backup_template_create <name> TO EXTERNAL SNAPSHOT"

to make the NDMP Netapp volume backups visible in MaxDB tools.

Would that make sense ?

Can hardly find any documentation about this feature though, could not even find the documentation of this dbmcli parameter in the MaxDB 7.8 online help.

Kind Regards,Norbert

Hi ,

Thanks for your reply.

However still I am not able to connect to MAXDB > NSP database on local machine via HANA studio.

I am not an SAP customer, I have installed SAP Netweaver trail version which I have downloaded from SAP website.

I have master installation password and its length is 8 characters.

Following are the screenshots from the DBACOCKPIT for reference, please have a look and provide necessary feedback on this.

upgrade maxdb from 7.8.02.023 to 7.9.07.010 with SAP ERP 6.0 EhP5

Hi All,

I have a SAP system with SAP ERP 6.0 EhP5. The target is SAP ERP 6.0 EhP6.

Current I get a error message from the SUM - "DB version 7.8.02.023 out of range. Upgrade the database system at least to version 7.9.7.010"

I had check the constellation "maxdb with 7.9.7.010 with ABAP ERP6.0 EhP5" but I didn't found in PAM this constellation (only 7.7 and 7.8.).

My questions are:

1) Is maxdb 7.9.7.010 compatible with SAP ERP 6.0 EhP5 ?

2) How does the db upgrade 7.8.02.023 to 7.9.07.010 (it was a longtime ago and I'm a litte bit uncertain)

thank you for all answer

Kind regards,

Richard

please suggest me further.

Thanks in advance,

Venkat

Hello,

Why you are using HANA DBstudio?

Did you install HANA DB?

< By default, the port number of a Hana instance is 3<instance number>15, so port 30015 is the default port of the default instance. >

Tool for managing SAP MaxDB databases is MAXDB Database studio:

http://maxdb.sap.com/doc/7_8/default.htm ->

Database Studio

Hi,

I tested with following DB users and there respective passwords:

- superdba

- control

- SAP<SID>

it is an JDBC driver issue.

Can you please tell me following for HANA STUDIO:

  -  How to check for JDBC drivers? whether it is installed properly/not.

  -  How to installed JDBC drivers. As I am unable to assign CLASSPATH.

Feedback appreciated.

maxdb runtime

Quick question guys. Is dbmsrv part of Maxdb database. I mean is this component needed for the functioning of the Maxdb at its core or is is just needed when we want to administer maxdb via DBM.  My understanding is Kernel is the key db process with maxdb and dbmsrv is needed only when maxdb is to be administered via DBM. We have dbmsrv process getting spawned only when accessing maxdb via DBM...whereas in another host we have a process as below

dbmsrv -sdbstarter XXX XXX A -DBMSHM XXXXX XXXXX SID S

and additional dbmsrv processes getting spawned when we connect to Maxdb via DBM. Does this mean there will be a dbmsrv process running by default. If so, could this be stopped and restarted in isolation with the db. I did not get this information from Maxdb help hence posting it here.

Re: maxdb runtime

Hi Kalyana,

dbmsrv is the component running on the database machine, executing the commands of dbmcli,

DBMGUI and Web DBM. So dbmsrv is the program doing the work, dbmcli is just a front end.

To make it a little bit more complicated, dbmcli contains a statically linked in dbmsrv,

which is used via the -s option of dbmcli.

Hi Deepak,

Thank you for the response.

Would a dbmsrv process start at the time of database start or would it get spawned internally by the database kernel when a connection request is initiated from dbmcli,DBMGUI or Web DBM. Can you please help clarify. Reason why i ask is, i dont see a running dbmsrv process in some of our systems however when i initiate a DBM connection, it all works fine and i can see a dbmsrv process running during this time so just needed clarity with respect to the processes.

Regards

Kalyan
