MaxDB can't be restarted after restore

Hi experts,

 

after restoring our MaxDB we have this problem while upgrading 7.9.8.0.23 to .28:

 

Cannot switch database mode, error during dbm command:

db_online

ERR

-24988,ERR_SQL: SQL error

-9407,System error: unexpected error

3,Database state: OFFLINE

Internal errorcode, Error code 6433 "system_error"

Background is that we don't have a final backup after upgrade from 7.9.8.0.22 to .28, so we restored into a .23 (old server has crashed, so we restored using SWPM).

The last log pages were created in .28. Do we have to clear the log area?

Hello Daniel,

this sounds strange - can you create an SAP ticket, open the OS connection to the database server and let me know the ticket#?
To get around this, yes, you will likely need to clear the log. However, at the moment I do not fully understand what has happened at your system - can you explain the sequence of events in more detail?

This is correct, SAP told me to clear log. Everything is fine now.

MAX DB CLI backup

Dear All,

 

I'm new to max db and we have SAP DMS server in AIX 7.1 with

7.8.02.26 /sapdb/SDB/db

7.8.02.26 /sapdb/CDB/db

 

I created a backup template using HowTo - SAP MaxDB Backup with Database Manager CLI guide and

managed to take the SDB & CDB backup to a external NAS.But the backup file is 3.5 MB .


This is same for Dev,Qty, and production.


Our production DMS aserver SDB db is around 40 GB, backup is 3.5 MB.


What's wrong with this backup...?

Please help...

Hi,

from the attached backup log I do not see any error, although I agree that there has not been much backed up. What was the exact backup statement - maybe you have performed just a 'save pages'?

Have you tried to do a recovery test on a different system with that backup?

If you want me to look further, please create a 'diagpack' archive of the MaxDB log files (dbmcli -d <db_name> -u <user,pwd> diag_pack) and upload it via:

sap content server unexpected growth

Dear All,

we have a SAP content server attached via module kpro.

Our productive content server is growing a lot despite the data transferred from SAP side is not so big.

What could be the root case? How we could investigate on what is making content server growing so much?

any hint?

MaxDB 7.8 backup problem

Hi guys,

 

        I'm facing problems with a MaxDB database 7.8 (7.8.02.21) 32 bits, installed in a Windows 2003 Server 32 Bits.

        The database has 1Tb and it was running fine until January/2015.

 

        There was a Microsoft Windows Security Patch applied in this server and, maybe by coincidence, the Database Backup COMPLETE and the Database Backup INCREMENTAL don't run anymore and return the error below:

 

              -915 No more memory 3,Data backup failed

 

        After this process the database status has changed to OFFLINE.

 

        Do you know a way to solve this problema?

Hi Ricardo,

I guess, database performance is not one of your priorities, otherwise you would not be running a 1 TB database on a 32 bit OS :-)

Please understand that Windows 32 bit can only address 4 GB of memory. My guess is that with the Windows security patch or due to other reasons, the memory consumption of the OS or other processes increased and so less is available for MaxDBs datacache to be allocated.
To workaround, there is no other option as to reduce the datacache size, which will reduce performance even more.

Of course, let stress that you should urgently move to a 64 bit OS and running a 64 bit MaxDB version. This would allow you to increase the datacache size to e.g. 32 GB depending on your available server memory...

I do not know which MaxDB version you are using, but if it is 7.9 you might want to check if SAP note 2075823 applies (bug leading to table growth in LOB columns).

If that does not help I would suggest creating an SAP ticket and open the OS service connection to the Content Server database.

yes, this version works for me.

Thank you for fixing this so quickly. My knowledge of dbmcli commands is a bit rusty and I only have an old Windows server for remote GUI access.

Am I right that the the same issue exists for the Linux 32bit version too? At least I also had problems with it. And if yes, can I expect that the Linux version will also be fixed with the next update?

Hi Simon,

yes, I have to admit it's the same issue and yes, it will be fixed with 7.9.08.29 as well. Sorry, I was not aware this would affect Linux as well.

I have created another web link for the Linux version - the official release should be available in 2-3 weeks depending on the test results for the 7.9.08.29 MaxDB kernel. But Database Studio looks fine, no problems expected.

Hello Thorsten,

 

We now migrated our DB to 7.9.08.28 but we unfortunately now have another problem. We keep having SAP DBTech JDBC: [-9111] exceptions which are also reproducible. We already tried the fix mentioned here

 

JDBC: 9111 / move error

 

but the UseStrategyCache parameter is already set to NO for our db.

 

We have also recreated all the tables for which we've had that problem but it didn't help.

 

Do you maybe have an idea about what this problem could be? I can of course give you the error files or even reproduce the bug in slow kernel mode if you want to (but you might have to give us once again the compiled slow kernel binary).

Hi Thorsten,

 

I can confirm that "UseStrategyCache" is NO which it was from the beginning because it's the default in 7.9.08.28.

 

BTW we already had -9111 errors some years ago but maybe they were not related.

Hi Thorsten,

 

Thank you for the quick answer. I now uploaded the diagpack archive. As my collegue Simon wrote, the UseStrategyCache value is indeed set to NO. Note that we also just got a "SAP DBTech JDBC: [-9205]: System error: AK Catalog information not found" error which should be visible in the diagpack.

maxdb -complete data backup is failed

Hi experts,

 

 

backups (complete and log ) are failing on livecache system.in our envorment we are using backup tool Backint for maxdb

 

please find the error logs and assist on this
