Content Server 6.50 on Linux X86 and MaxDb 7.9.08.08 to MAXDB 7.9.08.27 ????

Hi there.

Had anyone of you guys updated the SAP Contentserver 6.50 with MaxDB Software Version 7.9.08.08 to 7.9.08.27 Version?

I couldnt find anywhere the information, that the upgrade to the newest Maxdb version ist released. related to the older Version 6.40

only the maxDB Version 7.6 was a Long time supported.

Now we,ve got the 7.9.08.08 Version upgraded from 7.6. MaxDB. I dont want to be in trouble related to a lot of other open Projects,

only because of a Software outdated Version. The Version 7.9.08.08 runs good with our SAP Contentserver 6.50. But i have a little

Trouble with some small Performance issues.

Thx.

Ralph

Backup for MaxDB / Oracle for Content server

Hello All,

We are using HP server & Unix as operating system.

We use HP protect to take backup, with BR tools ECC6 is taken as backup.

Please clarify the below questions.

1. Can I use Oracle as data base for SAP Content server instead of SAP MaxDB.

2.If only SAP MaxDB should be used, will the HP protect will take care of Backup.

i.e any role BR tools will place in this backup.

3. Any backup strategy such that HP protect can be configured to take SAP MAX DB backup also.

4. Customer is currently using HP protect which takes Oracle backup, any way to extend it to Max DB.

Thanks,

Hi,

Ad 1)
No, SAP Content Server only supports SAP MaxDB as database.

Ad 2)
Yes, HP Data Protector does support SAP MaxDB

In general:

For details about supported backup tools and HP Data Protector, you might want to look at SAP note 822240. For questions concerning Data Protector, I would suggest to contact HP.

Hello Ralph,

I cannot speak for the Content Server application, but for MaxDB I would recommend upgrading to 7.9.08.27 (I do believe that we have fixed many bugs since 7.9.08.08 and far less new bugs introduced :-)

The Content Server is released for MaxDB 7.9 and this should be valid for any 7.9 patch level...

Hope that helps,
Thorsten

Hello Thorsten,

Do you have any schedule regarding the availability of 7.8.02.42? (we cannot migrate to 7.9.x because this is not supported by our current Linux db server).

In case it's possible to already get a patched-binary, we are of course volunteer to test the bug fix. ;-)

Thanks again for your support,

Christophe

If you are having performance issues make sure your parameters are correct...

I would read SAP Note 1111426 - Parameter check for liveCache/MaxDB instances which explains how to run dbanalyzer to check existing parameters and display any recommendations. You should run this after each update.

Also check SAP Note 1346964 - SAP MaxDB 7.9 database parameter recommendations

util_execute migrate - question on usage

I need to upgrade SAPDB 7.3.35 to the latest as part of a content server system copy + upgrade.

I found a thread listing these steps....my question is regarding util_execute migrate, does it modify the existing DB or does it modify the Backup only ? I do not want to make any changes to the existing DB,

open dbmgui (1st edition)

>> create a new backup medium target

>> take instance offline

>> take instance to admin

>> menu: Instance->command line

>>exec "util_execute migrate"

>> exec "util_connect"

>> exec "backup_start <newly created medium name>"

>> exec "util_release"

>> exec "db_offline"

thanks.

Christophe,

MaxDB 7.8.02.42 might take a while since we have just released 7.8.02.41 and the release cycle is not as frequent as with version 7.9.
Speaking of 7.9, apart from 32 bit MaxDB I think 7.8 and 7.9 are released for the same Linux OS levels, so maybe you can check again, if you could upgrade to 7.9.
Unfortunately we do not have the capacity to build additional hotfixes at the moment - sorry.

Next 7.8 release will probably be in about 3 to 6 months, MaxDB 7.9 likely within February 2015.

Hello Thorsten,

Thanks again for your answer. We of course understand the issue with the hotfixes, thanks anyway for having checked. We will wait for the next release and will maybe migrate to 7.9 (I'm currently checking with our system admin). I leave the forum thread open and will mark it as resolved when we will get the new version and everything works fine.

I would like to thank you once again for your amazing support: if you once come to Switzerland, let me know and we will invite you to discover the swiss gastronomy (with a heavyweight cheese fondue). ;-)

Best regards,

Christophe

if you execute your script in CMD prompt then it should show errors or add error logging to your script.

Hi Prabhat,

Check for the Control user password.

And the file which you have restored the single DISK001 wont work you need to then restore whole bunch of files from backup in order to get the Consistent DB state.

Ram
